Treatment

Fotona 4D

Four laser modes, one session, measurable lift.

APR 20 2026

Overview

A non-surgical laser treatment that lifts, tightens, and smooths the face by treating multiple depths of skin in a single session. It uses four laser modes, including a step delivered from inside the mouth, to stimulate collagen at every layer of the facial tissue.

What's going on beneath the skin

Skin laxity develops across multiple depths at once. As the dermis thins and the deeper connective tissue loosens, the structural support around the mouth, jaw, and cheeks gradually weakens over time. Treating only the surface leaves the deeper drivers of ageing untouched.

Fotona 4D works through four distinct laser modes applied in sequence, each reaching a different depth. The first step delivers laser energy from inside the mouth, targeting the mucosal tissue to stimulate tightening around the nasolabial folds and lower face. The subsequent steps work progressively outward through the deeper dermis, the mid-dermis, and finally the skin surface. Each step triggers collagen production at its target depth, and the result is a lifting and tightening effect that works from within rather than simply tightening the outer layer.

Daily & Ongoing Care

At-home care:

  • SPF 30 or higher daily. Sun protection is critical for at least 4 to 6 weeks post-treatment.
  • Gentle cleanser and hydrating moisturiser for the first week. Avoid exfoliating products.
  • Avoid pools, hot tubs, and saunas for the first few days
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 to 72 hours post-treatment
  • Do not pick at any peeling skin. Let it shed naturally.

Before treatment:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 4 to 6 weeks before treatment
  • Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids 5 to 7 days before your appointment
  • If you have a history of cold sores, discuss antiviral medication with your provider beforehand
  • Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup and skincare products

What to expect

During treatment

The intraoral step involves a small handpiece placed inside the mouth, delivering gentle warming energy to the inner cheek and jaw tissue. The remaining steps are performed on the skin surface. Most patients describe a comfortable warming sensation throughout, and no anaesthetic is typically required. Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes.

After treatment

Most patients notice an immediate freshness and subtle tightness after the session. Mild redness or swelling may occur and typically resolves within 1 to 2 days. Light peeling is possible on days 3 to 5 depending on how the resurfacing step was calibrated, and normal activities can be resumed immediately.

Results timeline

The immediate glow and tightness visible after treatment continues to develop over the following weeks as collagen production increases. Full results typically appear at 2 to 3 months, with ongoing improvement up to 6 months. Results can last 6 months to a year, with an annual maintenance session helping to sustain them.
